Although Kalkan Bay is "closed" to diving,
owing to the presence of many ancient wrecks; there is a well equipped
diving club in Kaş. The club has two boats, and daily diving tours are made
in the vicinity of Kaş (23 km. east of Kalkan). The diving instructors were
formerly naval commandos. The diving schedule is based on an ‘a la carte"
basis as follows:
Cave
Diving (10-22 m) - several available in the area.
Amphora Field (10-30 m) - the bottom is dotted with amphora and relics.
Drift Dive (8-30 m) - medium and strong currents.
Wreck Diving (5-35 m) - Bring your camera.
Wall Dive - rich sea life, reef, fish, sponges, etc.
Plus fifteen more interesting spots.
The club issues a CMAS international certificate to the non-diver (novice)
after a seven day program. All diving tours are fully escorted.
Although you are free to bring your own equipment the club can provide
excellent equipment for as many as fifteen divers at one time.
The Lycian coast has been classified by the diving media as having some
of the clearest waters in the world.
Water sports in Kalkan are still infancy but some of the hotels have wind-surfing
boards which may be used by their guests. Water-skiing and para-sailing have
been started in the bay. Those seeking something less adventurous may rent a
canoe in the area of Kalkan beach. It is also possible for sailing
enthusiasts to bring their own light-weight boats to Kalkan but at the time
of writing there is no launching ramp. Generally speaking constantly noisy
water sports are discouraged.
