Real Estates property,
villas and apartments in Kalkan
Kalkan on
the Turkish Mediterranean coast is an unspoilt resort.
Breathtaking
natural beauty, timeless villages, one of the finest beaches in the world,
picture-book harbours and an unrivalled archaeological heritage are all to be
found along this stunning stretch of the Turquoise coast.
The whole region is a mecca for walkers, botanists and nature lovers of all
kinds, with unspoilt forest and mountain trails and secret paths down to the
breathtaking beaches below. Steep gorges and canyons such as Saklikent, where
ice cold torrents feed the trout streams, are there to be explored.
Archaeological sites abound, including Xanthos, Tlos, Pinara and Letoon, all
steeped in both history and myth. Mountain slopes give way to plains where
villagers have grown relatively rich cultivating the tomatoes, cucumbers,
peppers and aubergines which all feature strongly in the delicious local cuisine.
Many visitors to Patara arrive on the dolmus after a scenic twenty minute drive
from Kalkan. It is little wonder that the charming village of Kalkan, hugging
the slopes down to a glorious bay, has evolved in recent years into a desirable
location for a relaxing sea-side holiday. The stone houses of the once Greek
settlement of Kalamaki are still evident, in various states of repair, as are
the atmospheric cobbled streets, now home to colourful bazaars, cafés and
restaurants. On the quayside brightly painted boats bob at anchor, launches
ferry sun worshipers to the lidos and beach clubs on the outer shores of the bay
or scuba divers to discover the treasures of the seabed.
East of Kalkan is one of the most beautiful coastal drives of all where the
winding road clings to the cliff base following the contours of the coast. New
seascapes appear around each corner until you reach the small town of Kas, only
a few kilometres from the Greek island of Kastellorizo, and where you can shop
for carpets and admire an ancient sarcophagus all in the same street.
